Marat Fuatovich Daukayev is a well-known star of the Russian Ballet. During his twenty year career at the Kirov, he danced the lead male role in the complete repertoire of classic ballets, including Don Quixote, Giselle, La Sylphide, Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, Bayadere, Cinderella, Chopiniana, Raymonda, Naopli, Laurencia and Carmen. His modern principal roles include

Opus 5 (Maurice Bejart); Moor's Pavane (Jose Limon).

For the last five years Marat was teacher and coach to Kirov principal dancers. Currently he is Ballet Master for the Colorado Ballet.

Marat was trained at the Vagonova Ballet School in St. Petersburg and at the Perm Ballet School. He was a student of the celebrated teacher, Plaxht; and at the age of twenty, he won the Bronze Medal at the International Ballet Competition in Varna. He was also honored for his artistic achievement with the Russian State Award in 1977. In 1983 he was named People's Artist by the Russian State.

Marat starred in numerous international tours in the United States, France, England, Germany, Spain, Canada, New Zealand and Japan. He has also appeared in international films including Anna Pavlova, Anyuta, Cinderella, Magic of the Kirov, Moor's Pavane, Romeo and Juliet, and Soloists of the Kirov.

He taught and coached his last season at the Kirov in 1997 and now resides in Los Angeles, CA with his wife and son.
