Robson Freire

Robson T Freire is a dancer and actor from Amazon State, Brazil. The first time Mr. Freire stepped onstage he was just a 10 years old actor, but in 1992 a turning point happened in his life. After going with his friend to see her dance classes, he decided to pursue a dance carrier. He started training and performing with several local companies in his hometown Manaus, then in 1996 he moved to São Paulo after winning a full scholarship in the historic Brazilian dance company Ballet Stagium.

Mr. Freire studied under well-renowned professionals in Brazil such as Liliane Benevento, Ricardo Ordoñez, Décio Otero, Ismael Guiser and Yoko Okada. In this cultural centre of Latin America he did opera, theatre and dance such as the musical "O Pássaro do Limo Verde” awarded with Youth Coke Award (1996) and performed as guest dancer for The Conservatory Villa-Lobos in Osasco city. In 1998 he came back to Manaus for being the first generation of Corpo de Dança do Amazonas/CDA (the resident company of Amazonas Opera House) from 1998 to 2004. In this dance company besides touring in Brazil he continued his training with Ivo Karagueorguiev (National Ballet of Sophia/Bulgaria),and Ronald E. Brown (Alvin Ailey Dance Theatre/NY) and also was directed by Joffre Santos (Castro Alves Theatre Ballet of Bahia) and Ivonice Satie (Grand Theatre of Geneva/Switzerland).

He has choreographed for CDA with “Armas da Tribo” (second place in The First New Choreographers Workshop of Amazonas State), and for Amazonas Opera Festival with “Magic Flute” (Mozart) and the Brazilian well-know opera “Pedro e Malazarte”. In 2001 Mr. Freire founded his own company Elenco Alternativo de Dança and has been awarded with several important grants in the Brazilian cultural scene: Villa-Lobos Cultural Foundation/2001 and 2006 Government of Amazon State/2003 FUNARTE (National Art Foundation) 2004/2005 Manaus City Hall Counselor of Culture/2007.

As part of Cultural Secretary of Amazon he worked in all its Dance Department: - Dance Teacher/ Claudio Santoro Cultural Centre - Ballet and Modern Master/ Director Assistant/Folklore Bale of Amazon - “A Cultura Tá na Rua” social project (coordinator) In 2006 he was invited by Ronald E. Brown for coming to Los Angeles/California for The First Dance Seminary of Long Beach State University. Since then Mr. Freire has been dancing with several local companies such as Pacific Ballet Dance Theatre and also he’s been teaching in dance studios in the whole California. Starting in 2013 Mr. Freire has his own adult class at Dance Arts Academy.
